Sydney's First Snowman!

Last week we had record setting snowfall! We got about 3 to 4 inches in Murphy. Here's some photos of Sydney's first snowman! Daddy did all the work while Syd watched from inside. We brought her out briefly to see it but by that time she was too sleepy.

For those of you still following this thing, sorry for the long break. It's been about 4 weeks but that time as flown by at our house. Sydney is doing very well. As cute as ever! She is keeping Mommy and Daddy very busy! Luckily, we have had lots of family and friends lending a helping hand. In fact, last night Mommy and Daddy were able to have a date night for Valentine's Day! Thanks Nana and Papa!

Sydney is growing everyday! Her little cheeks are getting chubbier and she's really filling out her newborn clothes. She has her two month check up next week so we'll know her exact weight then. I'd say she's probably in the 8 pound range.

We spend a lot of time just watching her and laughing at the funny faces she makes. Her little smiles are the greatest even if it is just gas! : ) Sydney has definitely got her Mommy and Daddy wrapped around her finger.

More Sydney photos from the last 4 weeks or so. From newest to oldest. Enjoy!

Update from Presby

Abby and Sydney are both resting and doing very well. They removed Abby's epidural yesterday. She's had very minimal pain since then but the nurses are doing a great job of managing the aches she gets every now and then. After being totally numb the first day, she's been up and moving around on her own the past two days. We take a couple of laps around the 5th floor during the day, visit the other babies in the nursery and show off Sydney to everyone!

I love seeing Abby in her mommy role. It seems to come so naturally. Like this is what she was meant to do her entire life. It's so fun to watch them interact. You can see how much Abby loves her little girl. It's amazing and makes me feel so proud to be Abby's husband and Sydney's daddy.

Sydney is still chugging along healthy and strong. Her pediatrician visits us in the morning after checking out Sydney and gives us an update. He says that Sydney is doing wonderful and would discharge her today if we were ready. Abby and I have decided to stay one more night and go Italichome on Friday.

Once we get home Friday, Grandma (Abby's mom) will be coming to stay with us! We are very excited to have Grandma come and help take care of Sydney (and us!). We can't wait to take our baby girl home and unvail her beautiful nursery to her. We know she'll love it and we hope she loves sleeping there!

Having some issues with posting pictures at the hospital. As soon as we get them all loaded on to the computer at home we will get them up. We love you all! We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers!

January 4, 2010: Sydney's Birthday!

This morning at 8:58am, Sydney Loraine Hewitt came into this world! She weighs 6 pounds 6 ounces and is 19-3/4" long. She has a little bit of hair that is brown and straight at this point. No curls yet! : ) Everybody says she looks like her daddy but you can tell she's got her mommy's little button nose! Abby and I are in awe of our precious little girl. She is most definitely a wonderful miraculous little gift from God. Abby and I feel so blessed that Sydney is healthy and strong.

Sydney caught onto breast feeding right away and is eating very well. Abby is doing a wonderful job of nurturing and caring for Sydney. She's a great mom! She and Sydney are doing well and resting comfortably.

We are so thankful for all of the Doctors, Labor & Delivery and Post-partum staff at Presby. Everyone that took part in Sydney's delivery and her care thereafter were amazing! You are all very special to our family. We appreciate all the friends and family members that spent time with us today and those that sent their well wishes. We look forward to showing off Sydney to many others in the near future!

We'll be staying in the hospital for a few more days. Once things settle down a bit we will have more pictures and stories to share.

January 3, 2010: Sydney Eve!

A late blog on the eve of Sydney's birth! The past two days have been filled with last minute preparations for her arrival. Quadruple checking our "go" bag, making sure all camera batteries are charged and psyching ourselves up for what is to come. It's unreal how fast 9 months can fly by.

We're so excited!! A bit anxious and nervous, but very excited! We'll be at the hospital by 6:30am and Abby's c-section will be at 8:30am. About an hour later we'll be the proud parents of a sweet little baby girl!

Tonight we had a Sydney eve celebration! Abby had her "last meal" at Abuelo's. You could feel the excitement in the air. Who will she look like? What color hair? How big are those toes gonna be? Abby's parents (Grandma and Grandpa), my parents (Nana and Papa), Aunt Tina and cousin Gabe, and Aunt Amber and Mama Missy all joined us.

Sweet Sydney you have already changed our life in so many positive ways. We can't imagine loving you any more than we already do! You are such a joy and blessing to us! See you tomorrow precious girl!!

36 Weeks: The Home Stretch

We are 36 weeks plus some and it seems to be all down hill from here. We met with the doctor last week and decided to go ahead and schedule a c-section for January 4th! That's 20 days from now. Unbelievable! Of course that could change at anytime, but for now that's what we're looking at. Just have to wait to see if Sydney wants to make an appearance before we go in and get her. : )

Abby is doing wonderful. She's still plugging along through her 12 hour shifts and still getting plenty of rest for Sydney. We are both very anxious but also very read
y for Sydney to just be here with us. Abby and I are extremely excited about spending time with our families this Christmas. It feels like once Christmas is here we can finally relax and concentrate on preparing for Sydney.

There's been a few other happenings since the last blog. First off, we had some snow in Murphy a couple of weeks ago! It was coming down hard on our stubborn little live oak in the back yard.

Abby's co-workers hosted a shower for her at the hospital on December 5th. I actually got to attend this one on my lunch break. We appreciate all of the ladies from the Nursery and Labor & Delivery for the amazing gifts! You can watch a little slideshow from the shower in the top right of the blog.

Finally, hear are some pictures from the City of Murphy's Christmas tree lighting. Mr and Mrs Claus showed up on a fire truck and they had reindeer!!

Nursery Update

We had a great time spending Thanksgiving in Quitman with Abby's family! Maddie cooked up an awesome spread for us. We ate very well and watched a ton of football! Thank you Marty and Maddie for a wonderful Turkey Day!

Sydney's nursery is coming along nicely. We're taking our time with it and trying to get it perfect for her arrival. Nana and Aunt Melissa have really helped Abby and I get a vision for what we want the nursery to be. They are like decorating gurus! While I assembled the cr
ib, they took Abby out shopping and they all picked out some really great items for the nursery.

Nana and Papa came over this morning to hang the letters and curtains. It looks great and I really appreciate their help with that! Once we get a couple of more pieces of furniture we'll be ready to hang everything on the walls.

One of our guest bedrooms is currently being used as a staging area for Sydney's arsenal of baby items...

Sydney will be 34 weeks on Tuesday, December 1st! We've got a a few more scheduled doctor's appointments coming up. We'll keep everyone updated on any news on that front.

Abby is doing very well and has been experiencing the normal aches and general uncomfortableness that goes along with this stage of pregnancy. It is amazing to witness the bond these two have even though Sydney's still in the womb. I can't wait to be a part of it once Sydney is born!
